Archenemy: Nicol Bolas is a specialized, ready-to-play Magic: The Gathering multiplayer box set released in 2017. It is designed around an „asymmetrical cooperative” (1v3) format where one player takes on the role of the ultimate villain, and three others team up as heroes to defeat them.

Gameplay Concept

One vs. Many: One player acts as the Elder Dragon Planeswalker, Nicol Bolas. The other three players form a team of heroes representing the Gatewatch (Gideon Jura, Chandra Nalaar, and Nissa Revane).
The Scheme Deck: To balance the three-on-one disadvantage, the Archenemy possesses a separate deck of 20 oversized Scheme cards. At the start of each of the villain’s turns, they flip one Scheme card to trigger devastating, game-changing effects against the heroes.

Product Contents

4 Ready-to-Play Decks: Four pre-constructed 60-card decks (one for Nicol Bolas, and three for the individual heroes).
20 Oversized Scheme Cards: A brand-new deck of schemes tailored specifically to Nicol Bolas’s flavor and strategy.
Accessories: A specialized four-dial life tracker, tokens, and a rules insert.

All 240 traditional cards included in the set are tournament-legal in Magic formats where their original printings are allowed (such as Commander, Legacy, and Vintage).
